Theme Camps

Theme Camps are interactive, living art projects where a group of people collaborate to gift experiences, performances, services, resources, or anything else they can conceive.   They embody  gifting and interactive art, two of the key Burning Man experiences.

The only boundaries of  a Theme Camp are your imagination and desire.  Theme Camps have gifted food, libations, music, and massage, while others have simply created welcoming spaces for people to gather, interact, or even grab a much needed nap.  But a Theme Camp does not have to be limited to the borders of its camping area, a Theme Camp can be a group of performers that roam the event together giving rouge performances or evening coaxing participants back to their camp.

If you are inspired to invite people into your space, create an interactive environment, or offer special services and would like to be mentioned on this website and have space reserved in our Theme Camp area, you can register your theme camp by contacting themecamps@floridapreheat.com.

Art

Artists and performers of all types are welcome and encouraged to participate.  PreHeat is a great place for experimentation since your audience is comprised of creative people who appreciate the creative effort as much as, and sometimes more than, the finished product.

If you are planning on bringing large scale art please register in advance so we can set aside space.  You can register by contacting themecamps@floridapreheat.com.

Art Grants

A percentage of the profits are being set aside for art grants and will be granted on a lottery basis to those submitting the following:

  1. Your full (real) name, street address, phone number and email address. This information is for financial bookkeeping and granting oversight purposes only.

  2. A detailed description of the project. How will the piece/creativity be installed/performed and removed Leaving No Trace? Will the piece incorporate Flame Effects? If so, how will those Flame Effects be handled safely?

  3. A thorough itemized budget. What materials will you be using and how much do they cost? Are there transportation costs? Will extra safety equipment and personnel be required?

  4. A timeline detailing the planning, creation, installment, and removal of your project.

Volunteering

PARTICIPATION.  Without it PreHeat is nothing more than an empty field.  Volunteering is your opportunity to be a part of the creation of PreHeat from the dust up.  So get involved, make friends, and most of all, have fun!

We need volunteers before, during, and after the event.  Volunteers are needed to get the site ready, keep the event running, and clean the site up.  So whatever your availability and whatever your contribution, we need you!

If you would like to volunteer in one or more of the following areas, please visit the spreadsheet at the link http://tinyurl.com/2dw5fg to sign up for Volunteer shifts during the Event or contact volunteer@floridapreheat.com to sign up for Pre or Post event positions.
